THE CANADIAN COUNCIL FOR INTERNATIONAL LAW (CCIL)
Annual Conference, National Arts Centre, Ottawa - October 14-16, 2009
The 38th Annual Conference will take place in Ottawa on October 14-16, 2009 at the National Arts Centre. Briefly, this year's conference will feature panels and speakers directed to the subject of multilateral readiness to address a range of global challenges and the relevant institutional frameworks and approaches required in international law and policy to address these pressing issues. Notable panelists and featured luncheon and banquet speakers will address a select number of these issues in panel discussions that include:
Ø "Policing" law-breakers at a multilateral level: including criminal activity resulting from failed states, and human rights violations;
Ø The way forward on the regulation of global financial markets;
Ø Food security and food safety;
Ø Trade and investment rules;
Ø Maritime laws and the Law of the Sea: from piracy and high seas terrorism to sea lanes and sea beds; and
Ø New power dynamics in international relations.
