Hi ICTLSA members and prospective members!
Welcome to a new academic year at Fauteux. This year we have expanded our mandate to include international commercial law in addition to trade law as our focus. We are also planning interesting and exciting events for our members. Also, we would like to introduce our new executive for 2011-2012:

President: Eliza Jiang Chen (English Common Law)
Senior VP: Majid Charania (French Common Law)
Finance VP: Jack Montpellier (English Common Law)
Operations VP: Amrita Mann (English Common Law)
Communications and Marketing VP: Phil Chambers (Programme de droit canadien)

Senior Advisors: Christian Orton (English Common Law), Saeed Teebi (English Common Law)

Here are a few important announcements:

(1) FIRST GENERAL MEETING
Who? All students who may be interested in international commercial and trade law
Where? FTX 315
When? Thursday, Sept 15, 2011, 11:30am to 12:30pm
We will be selection our new executive members (listed below) during this meeting.

(2) EXECUTIVE POSITIONS
We are currently seeking for these positions:

(a) Events Coordinator (2 positions)
Who? 1L, 2L, and 3L students
Time Commitment: 2 hours a week (depending on the event being planned) and requirement to attend executive meetings 1-2 times per term
Responsibilities:
i. Assist the VP of Operations in the planning, coordination and execution of event plans
ii. Take leadership in planning the club's social events
Qualifications:
i. Excellent time management/organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments
ii. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team

(b) Marketing Coordinator (1 position)
Who? 1L, 2L, and 3L students
Time commitment: 1-2 hours a week, and requirement to attend executive meetings 1-2 times per term
Responsibilities:
i. Implement marketing and promotional strategies for the club's events
ii. Create marketing materials (posters, graphics, etc) for events, and post such materials in the appropriate channels (blog, Facebook page, bulletin boards, etc)
iii. Design the club's new logo and banner
Qualifications:
i. Knowledge of Photoshop (or another graphics/photo editing program) is a definite asset
ii. Creativity
iii. Ability to discern the best channels to promote the club's events

(c) 1L Representatives (2 first year English CL and 1 first year French CL)
Who? 1L English and French Common Law students
Time Commitment: 1 hour a week or less, and requirement to attend executive meetings 1-2 times per term
Responsibilities:
i. Make class announcements about upcoming club events
ii. Promote the club and raise its profile among first year students
Qualifications:
i. Great communication skills
ii. English proficiency for 1L English Reps, French proficiency for 1L French Reps

(d) NPSIA Representative (1 position)
Who? Students in the combined JD-MA program with NPSIA
Time commitment: 1 hour a week or less, and requirement to attend executive meetings 1-2 times per term
Responsibilities:
i. Make class announcements about the club's events
ii. Liase with students and faculty in NPSIA to raise the club's profile
iii. Keep the club informed about the commercial and trade law events and simulations hosted by NPSIA
iv. Propose potential opportunities for joint events with NPSIA
Qualifications:
i. Great communication and interpersonal skills

Please submit your CV via email (ideally prior to the first general meeting) and indicate in the subject line the position(s) to which you are applying. At our first general meeting we will ask you to introduce yourself and tell the group why you would be suitable for the position (1 min). The club's executives will select the candidates after the meeting.

(3) CANADA-EU CETA TRADE PANEL AND RECEPTION
As many of you may know, Canada and the EU are negotiating a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA). The next round is scheduled to take place in Ottawa in mid-October. We plan to invite Canadian as well as EU representatives and senior diplomatic staff from both sides of the negotiating table to talk to students at Fauteux about key areas of the negotiation. This event is scheduled for October 20 from 4 to 6pm. Stay tuned for more details!
